Next Thursday, 12th September, is RU OK? Day, a day when we’re encouraged to be a good friend or colleague and a great listener, by genuinely reaching out and asking those we care about if they are ok.

RUOK.org.au suggests the following steps (it’s so easy):

Starting an R U OK? conversation? Use these four steps:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in

In your workplace, we want to encourage you to reach out to your team and colleagues; be aware of how they are acting, what they are saying (or not saying) and what’s happening in their lives. It’s common for people to try and keep their work and personal lives separate, but they often have a big impact on each other. Making a connection, without overstepping the boundaries your colleagues or employees may wish to have, is important as a work-friend or supportive leader.

If you’re aware of people struggling with their mental health, but you’re not sure where to turn, there are many resources suggested on the RU OK? Website https://www.ruok.org.au/findhelp that you may want to share or recommend to your colleague.

We’d love to know how you implement the values of RU OK? Day into your workplace too!
