With Christmas less than 2 months away, many businesses will be planning end of year festivities and potentially, their holiday shut down dates. Some Modern Awards and enterprise agreements have specific requirements for notification of these times for employees, and how that time is to be paid.
In an effort to streamline the payroll reporting process the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has introduced an initiative called ‘Single Touch Payroll’ that will require employers with 20 or more employees to change their reporting practices from 1 July 2018.
Results from a study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) uncovered a number of hidden costs associated with in-house Payroll and HR functions and found overwhelming evidence that outsourcing these functions saves businesses considerable amounts of money and time.
Apprentice numbers, especially those in the construction industry, are way down – 45% since 2012 (recognised in the Queensland Government’s annual budget), with only 7800 people started a registered apprenticeship in the year to December 2016.
